Council Members (including Deputy Chairperson), Queensland Pharmacy Business Ownership Council

The Opportunity

The Pharmacy Business Ownership Act 2024 (the Act) was passed by Parliament in March 2024 and commenced in full on 1 November 2025. The Act established the Queensland Pharmacy Business Ownership Council (Council) to regulate pharmacy business ownership and implement a pharmacy business licensing scheme in Queensland.

The Council independently oversees the regulatory framework, including making licensing decisions, monitoring compliance and reporting on actions taken to ensure compliance with the Act. The Council employs staff to support the Council’s regulatory activities and provide administrative and secretariat support.

Applications

The Minister for Health and Ambulance Services invites suitably qualified persons from a wide range of professional backgrounds, including governance, regulatory practice, law, pharmacy business owners and employee pharmacists of pharmacy businesses, to apply to be a member of the Council.

To be successful in this role, you are:

  • ready and able to add value to the Council through your skills, knowledge and experience, including but not limited to any of the following areas of expertise:

    • pharmacy business ownership in Queensland;

    • practising pharmacist employees of a licensed pharmacy business in Queensland;

    • accounting;

    • business;

    • financial management;

    • law;

    • carrying on a pharmacy business;

    • persons with skills, knowledge and experience relevant to represent consumers of pharmacy services; and

    • persons with other qualifications or experience appropriate or beneficial to the functions of the Council;

  • committed to implementing pharmacy business ownership regulation in Queensland in accordance with the Act;

  • an effective listener and verbal communicator, with the ability to apply legislation in a compliance environment;

  • highly organised, with attention to detail and the ability to work well under pressure;

  • capable of making fair, balanced, consistent and timely decisions when performing the functions of the Council;

  • a person of integrity with a commitment to understanding and fulfilling the duties and responsibilities of the Council and maintaining knowledge in this regard; and

  • available to attend Council meetings (currently on a monthly basis).

Experience in governance, regulatory practice and law will be highly regarded.

These opportunities are remunerated in accordance with Queensland Government guidelines. Members, including the Deputy Chairperson, currently receive annual fees of $7,500 per year.
