Stadiums Tasmania is seeking expressions of interest for the roles of Chair and Non-Executive Directors (NEDs) to contribute to the strategic oversight and governance of this dynamic statutory authority.
About Stadiums Tasmania
Stadiums Tasmania is a Tasmanian Government-owned independent statutory authority, established under the Stadiums Tasmania Act 2022. Commencing operations on July 1, 2023, its core purpose is to own, operate, and invest in Tasmania's major sporting and entertainment facilities.
Stadiums Tasmania’s vision is to foster community engagement and pride by leading the growth, activation, innovation, and optimisation of Tasmania's major sporting and entertainment venues and precincts. They aim to maximise the economic and community benefits provided by the state's major public stadiums infrastructure.
Currently, Stadiums Tasmania is the owner/operator of the Silverdome and UTAS Stadium, both in Launceston. It is expected to assume responsibility for MyState Bank Arena, Ninja Stadium, and the future Macquarie Point Stadium, all in Hobart.
Board Roles and Responsibilities
The Board is responsible for the overall corporate governance of Stadiums Tasmania, ensuring major public stadiums operate effectively and efficiently to meet the future needs of various user groups.
Chair Role Overview
The Chair leads the Board in fulfilling its governance responsibilities and ensures the Board operates effectively. Key responsibilities include:
Providing leadership and direction to the Board.
Facilitating effective Board meetings and decision-making.
Acting as the primary liaison between the Board and the Minister for Sport and Events.
Representing Stadiums Tasmania publicly and with key stakeholders.
Ensuring the Board maintains high standards of corporate governance and compliance.
Non-Executive Director (NED) Role Overview
NEDs bring independent judgement, expertise, and diverse perspectives to Board deliberations. Key responsibilities include:
Participating actively in Board meetings and sub-committees.
Contributing to strategic planning and risk management.
Ensuring compliance with statutory obligations and governance frameworks.
Supporting the Chair and fellow Board members in achieving organisational objectives.
Desired Skills and Attributes
The Stadiums Tasmania Board is a skills-based Board. Successful candidates will demonstrate expertise, qualifications, and experience in areas such as:
Business and financial management.
Infrastructure development, delivery, and asset management.
Legal, corporate governance, and risk management.
Major event management and operation.
Management of major stadiums and venues.
Sports administration or high-performance sport at a senior level.
Communications, marketing, and sponsorship.
In addition, candidates must possess high personal and professional integrity, sound and independent judgement, and strong interpersonal and stakeholder engagement skills. A commitment to excellence, innovation, inclusivity, and the ability to contribute to a positive and effective Board culture are essential.
