Case Study: Director ASX Listed Retail Chain

The brief:

Our client, a significant ASX listed retail chain, had a requirement for a new Board Director with a breadth of retail experience and a depth in merchandising. The new Director would add a further layer of retail expertise to the Board, depth in this area having been reduced due to the retirement of a longstanding Director. The client had undertaken a search for a suitable Director but had been unable to bring that to a conclusion.

Watermark then:

Performed an extensive piece of research on over 30 companies and 65 potential Directors.

Produced a condensed list of 14 Potential Directors who were a match for the brief and sought the client’s feedback on which candidates were the best fit.

Approached four candidates to ascertain their interest and continued to search for other potential candidates. We added four further potential Board Members to the list.

Arranged candidate interviews with the Chair, Chair of the Audit Committee and subsequently all remaining Directors.

The outcome:

The Chair offered two candidates a seat on the Board; both accepted.

The client added substantial supplementary industry expertise to their board in the one process.

From the commencement of Watermark’s search to the ASX announcement was a period of 10 weeks. This included all research, Watermark and Client interviews (candidates meeting every board member), referencing, background checks and the new Board Member’s own due diligence.
