Board Opportunities: Hydro Tasmania - Two Board Directors

Hydro Tasmania
Two Board Directors

Leading the delivery of clean renewable energy
Building state significant renewable energy infrastructure

Hydro Tasmania is Australia’s leading clean energy business, largest producer of renewable energy, and largest water manager. Hydro Tasmania’s turnover is $1.5 billion, and its total assets are valued at just over $5 billion. The business’ purpose is creating renewable energy for generations and its vision is focused on creating a sustainable energy future for all.

The Board oversees the performance of a complex hydro system in a volatile market, high standards of social and environmental stewardship, the renegotiation and expansion of a long-term contract portfolio with renewable producers and industrial customers, and the development of two major hydropower projects. The Tarraleah redevelopment and Cethana pumped hydro projects would expand Hydro Tasmania’s capacity to store and generate power and could attract billions of dollars of additional investment in wind and solar power and transmission.

We are seeking interest from governance professionals with strong commercial, financial and strategic expertise, demonstrable leadership qualities, experience in a complex organisation, and a professional background in law or engineering. Collaboration and constructive engagement will be essential on this small board. It is desirable for candidates to reside in Tasmania or have experience or connections to the State.

Of specific interest are Directors with experience in one or more of the following:

  • delivery and construction of mega projects/infrastructure

  • operating and managing a large fleet of generation assets

  • building a portfolio of long-term wholesale energy contracts

  • trading in the NEM’s spot, short-term contract and retail markets

This is a busy board and will require commitment from the new Directors who will also join at least one committee. Board meetings are generally held in person in Hobart.
