  • Critical strategic leadership role

  • Shape the future for key gateways and hubs of NSW

  • Ensure the prosperity of NSW and Australia

The Port Authority of New South Wales has the responsibility to keep the Ports of New South Wales safe, secure and open to the world. With over 6,000 visits from trade and cruise vessels each year, the Ports of New South Wales contributes billions of dollars to the NSW economy; creates thousands of jobs and supports countless businesses. A state-owned corporation, the Port Authority New South Wales manages navigation, security, and operational safety needs of the commercial shipping across New South Wales. This includes Sydney Harbour, Newcastle Harbour, Port Kembla, Eden and Yamba and Sydney's two cruise terminals, at Circular Quay and White Bay; common user berths at Sydney's Glebe Island and White Bay.

Reporting to the Chief Executive, the position is responsible for supporting the CEO and the executive leadership team in collaborative strategic planning processes, to guide the organisation in project prioritisation, identifying its market focus, risk management and strategic focus. The executive will also be responsible for stakeholder management and corporate communications, building relationships with counterparts within relevant Ministerial offices, Government Departments, commercial operators and community groups.

We would welcome interest from highly qualified executives with demonstrated experience in supporting organisations in their strategic planning, underpinned by exposure to building relations with Government, regulatory and industry and community groups. We are open to executives with a broad experience, which could have been gained in general management,  transformation, management consulting, corporate or government affairs, and communications. Maritime or transportation sector experience is not essential, but exposure to regulated industries with a broad range of stakeholders, especially government, and vocal community groups, would be highly regarded. This is a leadership role with teams across the venues, communications and corporate affairs division. We are looking for individuals who display contemporary leadership skills, the ability to coach, mentor, and inspire others to think strategically. The nature of the role requires the candidate to be highly collaborative, manage through influence and balance competing priorities with ease.

Successful candidates will possess relevant tertiary qualifications, and able to travel within NSW as part of the role.
