Director of Cladding, The Victorian Building Authority (VBA)

The Victorian Building Authority (VBA) regulates building and plumbing practitioners to ensure the achievement of efficient and competitive building and plumbing industries in Victoria. The VBA acts in the interests of consumers and industry participants for the benefit of all Victorians.

The Cladding team sits within the broader VBA Operations Group. The Director, Cladding is responsible for leading the delivery of the State-Wide Cladding Audit Program (SCA), the only program of its type in Australia, and leads the Cladding team. The SCA was established in 2017 in response to a range of local high-profile building cladding fires, and the tragic fire at London’s Grenfell Tower. This position is pivotal in maintaining partnerships with other agencies, practitioners, and the community to address the issue of non-compliant combustible cladding.

A successful Director will have the ability to drive strategic solutions to complex problems while ensuring operational delivery, lead a multi-disciplinary team within a fast-paced environment and build relationships with a diverse group of stakeholders.

The VBA has adopted a blended workforce model as part of our Reimagined Future, with people working between home and/or our CBA office.

Key attributes sought:

  • Both a strategic and operational, high functioning transformation leader who is not afraid to roll up their sleeves and has an eye for detail.

  • Contemporary people leader with a strong track record of building a positive and collaborative high-performing workplace culture. Strong executive team player in a cross functional organisation with most of the workforce working remotely.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills underpinned by integrity, credibility and gravitas.

  • Will bring a systems thinking approach with the proven ability to undertake a review, get buy in from others to build a more collaborative and cross organisational way of working and to drive the implementation of changes without completely disrupting business-as-usual.

  • A strong ability to deal with difficult and complex tasks, own these, be accountable for and work them through.

  • Government experience in some form would be an asset with the ability to influence policy and understand mechanics/machinery of government.

  • A background in building construction would be an advantage.
