Hydro Tasmania is Australia's major generator of renewable energy through hydro sources and is the largest generator of electricity to the Tasmanian region. It is owned by the Government of Tasmania and is a State Owned Corporation under the Government Business Enterprise Act. Hydro currently employs over 1100 people and have assets worth around $5 billion.

Hydro Tasmania is Australia’s leading renewable energy business. The Corporation generates hydropower and wind power in Tasmania and trades electricity and energy-related environmental products (such as Renewable Energy Certificates) in the Australian market.  Hydro Tasmania is the largest water manager in Australia.

Hydro Tasmania is seeking applications from individuals wishing to join its Board. The Board comprises of up to five part-time Non-Executive Directors and a Managing Director who meet monthly in Hobart (9 per year), Launceston (1 per year) and Melbourne (1 per year). The Corporation is specifically seeking skills, commercial knowledge and expertise in the following areas:

  • Legal skills
  • Futures and derivative trading, ideally in energy markets
  • Technology/innovation
  • Environment/regulation/renewables

A genuine interest in Tasmania and the ability to add value and contribute to Board decision-making and oversight are essential for all Board members. A sound understanding of good governance is required and previous board experience will be favourably viewed. The ability to think and act strategically, as well as the possession of strong commercial acumen, will support the objectives of the Corporation.
