The client (Large City Council)

Watermark Search International was retained by a large city council to recruit a Director of Planning & Environment.

The brief

The role encompassed Strategic Planning, Compliance Services, Development Services, Environmental Planning, Waste and Recycling Services.  The principal challenge was to enhance the capacity of the Council to deliver cost effective and efficient planning and environmental solutions within a Local Government area challenged by demographic growth and complex community needs.  The Council has substantial green infrastructure assets in the way of parks and gardens, urban woodlands and street trees, which the community highly values.

Watermark’s solution

Using our extensive networks in local government, associated private sector providers and other government agencies we sourced a first-class field of shortlisted candidates which reflected highly experienced Directors of Planning from large Sydney and outer Sydney Local Government authorities.

The outcome

This Director is now a pivotal member of the management executive team, leading a high performance unit within his own Directorate and providing strong counsel to the management executive and Councillors on planning, development and environmental issues in a highly sensitive region.
