Case Study: European Manufacturer

The Client
Our client is a European global market leader in engineering and technology products and solutions.
Client objective
Watermark was retained by our client to search for a General Manager Engineering to join the organisation. The role responsible was for leading a team of over 50 project managers and was the key role to ensuring project profitability.
The primary challenge was that the search was unsuccessfully conducted by four recruitment firms over a period of two years prior to Watermark being retained by the client. Furthermore, the client had high expectations of the successful candidate in terms of experience, leadership and cultural fit.
Watermark’s Solution
The Watermark consultants knew from the outset they were unlikely to obtain any suitable candidates with direct industry experience as the client did not want people from their competitors. Consequently, a wide ranging search was conducted across the entire industrial and engineering market sector.
Watermark identified and contacted over 200 sources and candidates across various industries and interviewed and assessed 20 targets to find the suitable candidate for the client.
Successful Outcome
Whilst it took a number of months to identify, assess and land the successful candidate, he has been in the role for three years and has been outstandingly successful in terms of the leadership and commercial acumen he brought to the role. He is earmarked for future business unit general management roles within the client company.
Due to the success of the above search, Watermark obtained further assignments with the client company and was introduced to other corporate entities within the corporation.
